Are you ready to get your outdoor spaces ready to be used again? We love this time of year the best because we can finally start enjoying the outdoors again. What better way to kick off spring than with some fresh outdoor planters to bring the sunshine vibes.

Getting your outdoor space back in action will make your front porch or patio feel welcoming and fresh, which is exactly what we need to transition out of winter into spring.

We’re of course always on the hunt for affordable finds that look good, so with spring in the air, we’re gathering our favorite outdoor planter tips and must-haves to help you save money and keep your outdoor spaces looking stylish.

Let’s  get to it!

Maximize Small Spaces with Vertical Planters

We love a good vertical planter because they add some great depth to the mix. It’s a great way to get the greenery prominent without taking up any floor space. These types of planters would be like the type you can hang on railings, wall-mounted pots, or even the tiered plant stands that let you stack your plants up instead of spreading them out.

Mix Up Heights for a Designer Look

One of our interior decorator friends let us in on a little secret. If you’re looking to make your outdoor space totally chic, make sure to start by mixing up the planter heights. Choose some tall ones, medium ones, and short ones to break up the boringness and create a plant area with personality.

You can even go a step further and create your own corner oasis by adjusting the size of your plants inside the planters too. Tuck in a tall leafy plant, then layer with something low and flowering, and maybe a trailing vine. It’s easy to do and makes a big difference in the visual appeal.

Think Outside the Box with Different Materials

One of our favorite different types of outdoor planters are the usual terra cotta or ceramic pots, but don’t sleep on metal, resin, and wood. We love these types of materials because they most definitely hold up better when the weather changes, but they are usually the more modern options out there.

Make Your Planters Do Double Duty

Why not use your planters as decor too? Choose colors and styles that match your outdoor pillows, rugs, or furniture. And here’s a little hack. Planters can define spaces or even add privacy. We’ve used tall planters to separate seating areas and it totally changes the vibe.

Here are a few favorites we’re loving this season. All are easy to mix and match.

  1. Veradek V Resin Taper Planter, Set of 2 – Tall, modern, lightweight and it comes in a set. Can’t beat that.
  2. 14 Inch Round Resin Pots for Big Plants or Trees – Classic shape, durable resin, clean modern look. These last through rain, sun, you name it.
  3. 3 Metal Hanging Planters, 15.7 Inch – Perfect for balconies. Fill these with trailing flowers and they’ll steal the show.
  4. Set of 5 Plastic Planters with Drainage – If you’re just starting out, grab these. Five planters with saucers make easy peasy plant styling.
  5. Tioman Hardwood Flower Box – Adds instant charm, especially near the kitchen door. We’re loving the rich brown color on this one.
  6. 38 Inch Tall Rectangular Metal Planter – Add grasses or small trees and line your walkway or use it to divide up outdoor areas. So good.
  7. Classic Resin Flower Pot in Copper, 15 Inch – Lightweight but looks fancy. That copper finish is chef’s kiss.

Outdoor planters are honestly one of the easiest home buys because they work all year and in any space big or small.
