Before we get to the recipe, let’s talk about some of our tips to make this go as easy as possible.

  1. Use store-bought Rice Krispies. There’s definitely no need to make them from scratch if you are short on time.
  2. Using a bench scraper or even a clean ruler helps keep edges sharp and uniform.
  3. Let the black candy melts cool slightly before piping so your lines are clean and not runny.
  4. Vary the length of the tick marks to make them look like a real ruler by making some short and some long.
  5. Don’t worry about being precise. Once all the rice krispy treats are all lined up, they look amazing.
  6. These store well, so you can definitely prep them ahead for any school event or snack table if needed.

If you’re making those super cute ruler Rice Krispies for a back-to-school treat or classroom party, this is the exact list of supplies you’ll want on hand. They’re easy to assemble, fun to decorate, and always get a smile from the kids (and teachers too!).

  1. Rice Krispies Treats Crispy Marshmallow Squares – These come individually wrapped and save so much time. No baking or cutting needed—just unwrap and decorate.
  2. Wilton Black Candy Melts® – These are what we use for the ruler markings. They melt smoothly and give that bold black look that really pops.
  3. Icing Piping Bags – These make decorating way easier, especially if you’re letting the kids help. Just snip the end and go!
  4. Multi-Purpose Stainless Steel Scraper – This is what we used to press the candy melts and draw even lines. It helps keep everything looking neat and ruler-like!
