Apply and Reapply Without the Mess

When you have to apply often, it’s best to have an easy way to apply the sunscreen without the big mess on your hands. We love the Solar Buddies applicator. It makes applying so simple without the gross sunscreen hands. Filling these with a good kid-friendly formula that doesn’t feel greasy or contain harmful additives is perfect. We also love packing a sunscreen face stick or powder sunscreen to make applying to little faces way easier.

Make It a Habit, Not a Hassle

When little kids are ready to go play in the pool, it makes things way easier when you’ve already applied the base layer of sunblock before you left the house. This way, it has time to soak in and you don’t have to force them to stay out of the water to wait. Another one of our secrets for remembering to apply sunblock once we’re already out is to set a timer for every 80 minutes to check their UV patches we make them wear.

Dress for Defense

Of course we always apply sunscreen, but a great way to keep out of the sunburn zone is to wear a wide brim hat that can cover your face, neck, and shoulders. This gives you or your kids the protection they need without a lot of hassle. We are also obsessed with the long-sleeved rash guard type swimsuits for our kids, and even ourselves sometimes. And we also never leave home without a set of sunglasses for all of us that have built in UV protection too.

Mind the Midday Hours

Keep in mind too when you’re planning your water activities to try to avoid the 10a to 2p high sun times unless you can get in the shade. This is a perfect time to take a break for lunch and avoid some of the worst rays of the day. Don’t forget, even when it’s cloudy, UV rays can still sneak through. Creating shaded areas for kids and you to take breaks will help a ton in avoiding sunburn. And, don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
