Add Personality Without the Paint

It be a temporary spot, but your dorm room has way more potential than you think. There are so many peel and stick wallpapers and removable decals that can really liven up their room with personality without needing to paint. We also love fabric wall tapestry-style art too that can cover up some of the cement wall vibes without needing any tools.

Of course, Command strips are your college kids best friend because they are damage-free and allow them to still add personality to their room. We also love the soft lighting of fair lights or lamps to keep that homey vibe going.

Create Zones Within the Small Space

One of the most overlooked decor items college kids can add to their dorm is a rug. They are the perfect addition to make getting out of bed not be so cold on the dorm tile and brings up the cozy vibes for sure. There are also some super cute tray or basket systems for their desk that will bring a little glam to their study space.

We also love using double-duty furniture like storage ottomans that can double as seating and supplies. When you’re tight on space, anything double duty is your friend. And remember, storage doesn’t have to be boring. There are so many cute woven baskets and patterned bins that can bring up the personality. Things like a jewelry organizer could double as decor while keeping everything tidy. Stackable rolling carts are always a good option to to get the storage and be able to move things around easily. And if their dorm beds aren’t bunked, you can elevate the bed with risers to use underneath to tuck storage bins in.

Use Greenery to Bring Life to the Space

One thing we know for sure in our own homes is that greenery in your home really does boost your mood. And the same is for a dorm room too. We recommend fake plants though because they don’t require an effort and still give the warmth you’re after. Hanging ivy garland or vines around their desk or photos is another easy way to bring in some life to the space.

Decorate for Function and Comfort

Having a good blanket or two is another great way to easily bring up the comfort factor. We remember back when we were in college that dorm rooms never had enough seating or pillows, so be sure to keep that in mind when putting everything together.

Having a fun bluetooth speaker takes up minimal space, but most definitely brings the good vibes. Removable hooks to hold towels, robes, and tote bags are a great way to keep the room tidy throughout the week too. And when it comes to decor, function is great, but don’t forget to up the comfort by bringing in some personal items they love.
